About
Guardians Farm calls the lovely Town of Southbury in the rolling hills of Western Connecticut home. Southbury has a rich farming history and we are excited to be a part of it during a time when many farms are closing. The farm was built in 1850 and once was comprised of almost 200 acres.
Originally called Poverty Farm, the large barn shows remnants of its history as a dairy farm decades ago. One of the entrances to the barn has “1850 PF” stamped in the concrete. Two large hay lofts give a glimpse into the large operation this farm once was. Five large stalls now house our herd of Nigerian Dwarf and Lamancha goats. What was once the dairy parlor is now the home to our kidding stalls which we constructed with lumber from a mill in Harwinton, CT. With the expansion of our farm including Holsteins and Jersey cows the dairy parlor will be revived in 2021. The barn’s concrete silo overlooks the property and gives the farm that quintessential old New England feel.
Make a day of visiting our farm and the quaint Town of Southbury. There are several excellent restaurants and shops just 5 minutes from the farm. Bring the kids to learn something new about farming and our farm animals. Farm staff will be on hand to answer any questions and we have educational posters displayed throughout the barnyard. Â Want to plan a field trip to the farm we can do that too! Â So far we have had elementary schools come to the farm and have been able to accommodate classes with up to 90 students plus chaperones. Â We take students through each section of the barnyard and teach them about all the animals here and how to care for them. Have an upcoming birthday party you need to plan? Â We are now offering birthday parties at the farm. Â We provide the space and you take care of the rest. Learn more about Guardians Farm.
