Guardians Farm is a first-generation dairy farm. David Buck and his wife Tamra have a mixed herd of Holsteins, Jerseys and Brown Swiss cows that provide the dairy to produce vat pasteurized whole milk, chocolate milk and butter. The farm also has dairy goats which are used to produce goat milk soaps.

David is involved in the day-to-day operations of the farm including caring for the livestock and managing the dairy. Tamra manages the store and events while also working full time as a police officer. Together, they make all the homemade skincare products such as goat milk soaps and lotions. Joining them in chores is Aslan, retired police dog and high drive working dog who needs the stimulation and exercise of farm life in order to maintain a healthy balance.

David, the Veteran, primarily served in the U.S. Coast Guard in New Haven. He was deployed to NY/CT on 9/11, NY Harbor in 2003, Portland Maine in 2003, and Louisiana in 2010 for the Deepwater horizon oil spill. When asked what it means to be a CT Farmer Veteran, David replied, “I am part of a special group of people who dedicated their lives to service of our great country, state and local communities in the military and now as farmers. I am very proud of all that we do to better agriculture in CT.”

During the warmer months David and Tamra are out in the pasture every day with their herd of dairy cows. They rotationally graze their cattle and can see first-hand the benefits this provides to the land. “We see the diversity it creates. Our fields are full of life from songbirds to raptors, from field mice to rabbits and up the food chain to red fox and coyotes,” said David.
