Chris grew up in Salem Connecticut and lived there until joining the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune from 2003 to 2007 with two combat deployments to Iraq with 1st Battalion 2nd Marines. After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, Chris spent a few years dabbling with different labor trades before going back to the middle east as a private security contractor. It wasn't until 2015 that Kirsten and Chris began attending workshops and conferences to put the gears in motion on how to make this farm thing happen. In 2016 Muddy Roots farm took life and Kirsten and Chris gradually transitioned from working full time to farming full time, and they haven't looked back since.

"Feeding people is powerful work," he says, "especially for veterans, as it's a way for us to continue to serve."
