"Being a member of CT Farmer Veteran Coalition Chapter has allowed us to meet fellow veteran farmers around the state. They have become a network that provides support, friendship and advice when needed. It is a pleasure to work with others that love their country and share the same values."  — MAT WILKINSON

Mat and Cindy Wilkinson operate Wilkinson Farm, located in Columbia, Connecticut, with their two daughters Molly and Abby. Three generations of family members work together to produce Connecticut Pure maple syrup, produce, cut flowers and honey. They are members of the Connecticut Veterans Farmers’ Coalition chapter and are certified to carry the Connecticut Home Grown by Heroes label on their farm products.

Mat grew up in Northwestern Iowa, where his family continually operated the family farm from 1849 to the 1970s. Mat began his service enlisting in 1985 as a forward observer for the field artillery. He later attended Iowa State University and was commissioned through ROTC as an Infantry Officer in 1991. During his service he served full time with the Connecticut Army National Guard and deployed to Egypt and served two tours in eastern Afghanistan. After retiring in May of 2022, he took a position as the Construction and Facilities Management Officer for the CT Army National Guard.

"Being a member of CT Farmer Veteran Coalition Chapter has allowed us to meet fellow veteran farmers around the state," Mat says. "They have become a network that provides support, friendship and advice when needed. It is a pleasure to work with others that love their country and share the same values."
